The Season of Lent

The Season of Lent
The Holy Season of Lent is traditionally observed as a time of penitence and preparation for the Paschal Feast of Easter, in remembrance and celebration of Christ's life, death, and resurrection. The forty days of Lent parallel Jesus' forty days of temptation and discernment in the wilderness.

In centuries past, this was the time in which those wishing to be baptized would engage in the rituals of prayer, fasting, and spiritual cleansing before being baptized on Easter morning. We still observe this tradition, in spirit, with special worship services, times for reflection, and opportunities for self-giving service to others.

Setting aside time, making new commitments in our spiritual life, clutivating new connections to God's family, all help us engage with new joy, new hope, new faith, the wondrous truth of God's love, of Christ's life, and of the Spirit's power for us, and our world.
