Annual Events

These are events we usually have every year. Call the office for dates and times.

In our local church:

Sunday, Dec. 16. Open house at the parsonage, 1613 W. 14th St. for church friends and neighbors.

Sunday, Dec. 16. During worship service, the choir presents Saint-Saens' Christmas Oratorio. Printable list for the rest of Advent and Christmastide.

Friday, Dec. 14. 7:30 p.m. Adult Fun Night. Bunco! Everyone is welcome!

Dec. 2 - 23: Weekdays. The sanctuary space is open and available for quiet contemplation. Printable list of events.

Dec. 2 - 23: Sundays: Advent services 9:30 a.m. "Holy Listening" Reflections on how we experience God, and center in the Spirit. (Reading list)
11:50 a.m. During worship, highlights of UMCOR and special music for the season each week.

Dec. 2: 6:00 p.m. Decorating the sanctuary for Advent. Includes a soup supper.

November 4. All Saints Day

October 12-13. Church Garage Sale.

October 7. World Communion Sunday. We'll have a celebration of diverse decorations, many types of breads, and appreciation of people in all the countries of the world.

September 16: We're beginning our special learning time for toddlers and pre-schoolers. This includes a gathering time and snacks for children and parents from 10:30-10:50, then children's time in worship, and then the children have a special time of Bible-based stories and activities.

August 19: The Upstairs Sunday School class is developing a study "Perspectives on Christianity." Read some about it and see if you'd like to join us.

August 5: The Choir is back! After our month-long hiatus, we'll be back with renewed enthusiasm

July 29: Fifth-Sunday lunch. Come and join us for fellowship after church. Bring a dish if you like, but come even if you forget to bring a dish. We'll have plenty.

May 27: Pentecost. Wear flame-colored clothing and celebrate!

April 22 - June: Adult Sunday school class discusses the film Nobelity and what we are called to do in response.

Friday, April 20. Workday with Habitat for Humanity. Call the office for details of how to participate. Click on the small picture for more pictures

Easter Sunday, April 8, 10:50 a.m.
In a festive service of worship we will celebrate Christ’s Resurrection.   Don’t forget to bring flowers, to adorn the cross! Click on the small picture for more pictures.

Easter Sunday Sunrise Service, April 8, 6:30 a.m.
In a simple service of quite prayer, simple music meditation, we’ll gather on the church lawn to welcome dawn, and  celebrate the Resurrection, followed by a continental breakfast in the fellowship hall.

Good Friday Service, April 6, 7:00 p.m. This service will feature a dramatic reading of the Passion story, with gradual darkening of the sanctuary (Tenebrae)  followed by silent prayer.

Maundy Thursday Service, April 5, 7:00 p.m.
In a service of dramatic readings and Holy Communion, we will remember Jesus’ last meal with his friends, his washing of their feet as a model of servant ministry, and his preparation for self-sacrifice on the cross. The sanctuary will be made bare in preparation for our journey to the cross.

Palm Sunday Service, April 2, 10:50 a.m.
Join us for a short walk waving palm branches and celebrating Jesus' arrival into Jerusalem.

Christmas Eve. Dec. 24 5:30 p.m. Candlelight service with Holy Communion and Lessons and Carols.

Dec. 24. 10:50 a.m. Festive Worship Service for the Fourth Sunday in Advent.

Advent: Dec 3 - Dec 24. Special services each Sunday morning.
Also Dec. 3 6:00 p.m. Hanging of the Greens and Soup Supper
Dec. 24 5:30 p.m. Candlelight Service and Holy Communion.

December 2: Saturday. 1 - 5 p.m. Artists/Artisans Fair. Call for artists (Click on the picture for more pictures.)

November 5. Celebration of All Saints Day and dedication of the caps we have made for the Coats for Kids project. (We made and donated 592 knit caps.) (click on the picture for more pictures.) and even more pictures

October 2006 World Communion Sunday. Extra-special decorations and communion breads. Refreshments from around the world. (click on the picture for more pictures.)

Sunday mornings Oct. 22 - November 26. Faith Essentials Sunday School class

Sunday October 29. Fifth-Sunday dinner after church

Sunday mornings June - August. 9:30-10:30. Discussion of issues from the "Living the Questions" videos. Adult Sunday School in the Fellowship Hall.

Most Sunday evenings June - November. 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Continue the "Living the Questions" meetings and discussion. We're having a great time with this! Come for just one session or come regularly - there's a lot to enjoy either way. (Check with the office for detailed week-to-week schedules.)

Sunday, July 30. Lunch at church.

Sunday evenings March 2 - May 28. "Living the Questions" videos by leading thinkers in the Christian tradition, followed by discussion, moderated by Sarah and John--6-7:30 p.m. Feel free to come to as many or as few sessions as fit your schedule.

Sunday April 30. Fifth Sunday potluck dinner at noon.

Easter Sunday Services. April 16. Sunrise service (6:30 a.m.) and regular worship service (10:50 a.m.) No Sunday school on Easter Sunday.

Sunday mornings March 2 - April 9. Lenten Sunday School class. Coffee and donuts and fellowship start at 9:00 and the discussion begins promptly at 9:30. Everyone is welcome for one or more sessionsl.

March 1. Ash Wednesday service, Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.

Feb. 28. Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, 6:00 p.m. Come in costume if you feel inclined to do so.

Sunday January 29. Fifth-Sunday potluck dinner at noon.

Sunday, Jan. 1. 10:50 a.m. New Year's Day celebration with Holy Communion
