SUNDAY SCHOOL SERIES—JULY AND AUGUST

“A Church-State Solution”

Sunday mornings: July 10-24, 9:30 a.m.

Fellowship hall

Join us for a conversation on this timely topic, based on an article from July 3 New York Times Magazine,  by Noah Feldman.  Taken from his book Divided by God:  America’s Church-State Problem—and What We Should Do About It, Feldman opens his thought-provoking essay with this statement:

“At the heart of the culture wars is the failure of both sides to accept America’s rules for religious expression, in public life and public money in religious life.  Maybe that’s because the rules are wrong.”

Bring your ideas, opinions, and questions, and let’s begin reflection on this important subject.

“Public Education as a Faith Issue”

Sunday mornings, July 31 - September 28

Gather at 9 for refreshments—class begins at 9:25 a.m.

Sarah will facilitate discussion of this subject, based on a study published by the Women’s Division of the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.    As is the case with all their studies, this one probes the subject from many vantage points, and raises key questions which  all faithful people should consider.   Given the very troubled nature of our state’s current deliberations over funding and other issues for public schools, there’s never been a better time than this to consider the issue.

All interested youth and adults are urged to attend.

Call the church office if you’d like to purchase your own copy of the study, available for $7.50. Contact Sarah with questions on either of these topics, at 699-7164 (cell).
